Each box was made as a protective case for books from 1817 and 1903. Double thick walls strengthen the boxes as book protection. In addition, 55 pound tensile strength fabric reinforces the hinges. Leather pockets are riveted to the inside of the Leather Boxes for Books to hold loose documents. Also, rivets attach a leather strap to the inside of each clamshell box.
